IXL Skills Site
Hello Students,
I am sorry that I am unable to return today. I should be back tomorrow. Anyways, here is a site that I think is useful: IXL Math
On this site there are math activities to help hone your skills. You can search the skill by specific standard and by grade. If you click on a skill, it gives you problems to solve. The problems automatically adjust to your level by getting increasingly more difficult if you get the problem right. You can build your skills as the site tracks your progress.
There's also a site for language arts here: IXL Language Arts
It's similar to math site. Only this site focuses on the language arts standards.
With both of these sites, I would start with the fourth grade and work my way up from there to help build your skills.
If you have time, try it out for fifteen minutes and let me know what you think.
I'll post the sites to our "Liked Links" gadget so you can use them throughout the year.
Have Fun!

Newsflash! Mr. Crame is out with a facial injury...
Today's lesson: Never catch a 12 inch softball with your face. Sorry I'm out of class today. I'll return when the doctor clears me.
See you (with my good eye) soon,
Mr. Crame

Demystifying the Common Core
Today we had a lesson in demystifying the Common Core. As you may already know, the Common Core State Standards are the basis for our 4th grade expectations as well as summative assessments, including tests like the MAP test and the PARRC.
We watched this three minute video which helps explain the etymology of the Common Core Standards: http://vimeo.com/51933492
Afterwards, we distributed a kid friendly checklist of common core expectations in math. I feel that it is important for students to know how they will be assessed and what they're expected to know. During the lesson, each student read the expectations, checked off the ones they felt that they confidently knew and circled the ones they had questions about. I will use this survey to help as a pre-assessment to help understand how the students feel about fourth grade expectations. The hope is that students will be able to identify expectations and to focus on what the next step for them can be.
