Today we had a lesson in demystifying the Common Core. As you may already know, the Common Core State Standards are the basis for our 4th grade expectations as well as summative assessments, including tests like the MAP test and the PARRC.

Afterwards, we distributed a kid friendly checklist of common core expectations in math. I feel that it is important for students to know how they will be assessed and what they're expected to know. During the lesson, each student read the expectations, checked off the ones they felt that they confidently knew and circled the ones they had questions about. I will use this survey to help as a pre-assessment to help understand how the students feel about fourth grade expectations. The hope is that students will be able to identify expectations and to focus on what the next step for them can be.
