Identifying Conflict and Plot Structure

Today we began analyzing the plot structure in the book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.  We revisited the idea of a linear plot diagram and are now attempting to modify that diagram to help us understand how the two stories (of the rats and the Mice) interact.  Our idea is to understand this dynamic as we begin to create the fourth grade play.

Our assignment was to create two separate plot diagrams; one for the mice and one for the rats.  We will discuss the results on Monday.

We also discussed the existence of four main types of conflict to be found in the book.
We will be finding evidence of these conflicts and citing text to support their existence on Monday.

Legacy Art Project Tomorrow

Mrs. Kodavarti has gracefully agreed to coordinate the legacy art project for the class this year.  She will be completing the project with the students tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:00PM.  As you know, tomorrow is also a PE day.  So, please come dressed in PE uniforms and bring the clothes that you would like to wear for the project in a bag.  We'll get a chance to change into them here at school.

The instructions for attire are as follows:

"Please do remember to bring a change of clothes for your child. It doesn't have to be super dressy but of course a step up from sweats would be great. I would say dressing like an evening at a somewhat decent restaurant and not at the Ritz would be a good place to start, maybe business casual for kids :)

Also, picture project will mostly be waist up so you don't have to worry about fancy shoes and all that. If we do some other creative stuff, we will figure out next steps."

Sakushi... A Comic by Amelia

What is an "illustration and how does it help us?

What is an Illustration? According to Miriam Webster an illustration is:
a: an example or instance that helps make something clear
b: a picture or diagram that helps make something clear or attractive

In the course of our anatomical study of the human body systems we will be working with multiple illustrations designed to aid our understanding.  Today we will take a closer look at several different kinds of illustrations and discuss how we can extrapolate more information by investigating them closely.

Kaylen Conquers Cascade Mountain

My dad and I went to Cascade Mountain over the weekend and I went snowboarding. Snowboarding is pretty hard to me because it is very hard to change directions and stop. If you are not balanced or move a little too hard then you will fall over. Though, I so think Snowboarding is cooler than other snow sport.
